None of the feelings that you face every day are permanent. They will change with time.

What you can do if things are getting you down:

1.  Let it out. Although it is good for you to cry to release your feelings, it is not the only way to express negative emotions. You can also use pen and paper to write down your feelings.. just start writing without giving it a second thought.

2. Share the burden. Keeping things to yourself often makes it worse. Try sharing your  feelings openly and honestly with people you trust.

3. Keep busy. When you are busy doing things, you will forget about your worries for a while.

4. Don’t allow it. When you know that there is something or someone specific that upsets you, start acting against it. Avoid people and situations that impacts negatively on you.

5. Walk or exercise. Walking can keep you energized and boost your energy levels. There are many studies which show that exercise improves physical and mental health.

6. Entertain yourself. Read a good book, watch a movie, listen to music or go out and do something interesting. It is hard to think about negative things when you are doing something entertaining or interesting.

7. Avoid loneliness. Generally, people start feeling sad when they are all alone. Visit family or friends or volunteer to visit people in hospital or old age home. You will be surprised how this can change your perspective on things.

9. Pamper yourself. How about a massage, bubble bath or visit to a spa?  Spoiling yourself and relaxing can make a real difference physically and emotionally.

10. Try helping others. Helping others will make you feel good about yourself. It will not only make you feel happier but it will also make someone else happy.

12.  Sleep. It is important to get enough sleep. Tiredness can also make you irritable and put you in a negative frame of mind.  Try to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep.

13. Consider Counselling. It is often necessary to seek professional help, especially if you cannot get rid of negative feelings or sadness over a prolonged period of time.
